Casino Live Blackjack

If you find yourself being more the methodical gambler (as opposed to the out and out gung-ho type), then casino live blackjack is right up your street.

Often referred to at home as “21”, or “Pontoon”, this is the casino game where you can influence a lot of the odds/chances, therefore enhancing your win ratio greatly. This game is played on a standard casino card table, and the aim of the game is to get 21 or “Blackjack”, and beat the dealer.

Cards have number values, 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 being the more obvious ones. Aces’s = 1 or 11, whichever is best for you with your hand, dealer with their hand. Any picture card (K’s, J’s & Q’s), all = 10. Many people get confused between making 21, and actually making Blackjack. 21 is a hand made up from 3 or more cards, I.E a 4, a 7 and a K. Whereas Blackjack is 21 made from only 2 hands, an A and a 10-value card.

There are two  ways the dealer can be beaten in live blackjack or online blackjack:

  • Dealer draws above 21, you stay below or equal to 21(this method is called busting). If the dealer busts, everyone still in the hand wins, and all winning hands paid correct odds.
  • Dealer draws to 17 or above, you draw to higher than 17, but lower than 22. It is possible to draw (push) with the dealer. This occurs when both players have an equal number above 17 but below 22. In this instance bets are returned.

The reason players have a better “edge” over the house in live blackjack games , is that this is the casino game that has the truest odds. Payouts are even money, 1:1 for beating the dealer standard, and 3:2 for beating the dealer with Blackjack.  In other house games, the casino has a much better edge. E.G roulette pays you odds at best of 35:1, whereas there can be 37 or 38 numbers to hit. This is why casino Blackjack is more profitable for the strategic player.

Once your cards are dealt to you, you are now able to influence your chances of winning by acting on your hand. You can either stick; take no more cards, action on the next player, hit; draw another card (you can do this as often as you like until you bust), and if you have been dealt a pair i.e. 88, you can split. To split your cards, means you match your original bet, and your cards become two new hands. An 8 and an 8. Then you have the same options as above to stick or hit.

You can also double your original bet on any hand in live blackjack or online casino blackjack. This means you draw one more card, and one more card only, and you have to match your original bet to do so. There are certain factors which must be taken into consideration. Some again, are obvious. It is not advisable to double high cards, as there is a relatively strong chance your hand will become bust. It is also not advisable to double when the dealer has a strong hand, such as an ace showing, as your hand may already be unable to win. Hands that are profitable to double with are a 9, 10 & 11, as these are all drawing to 20 or 21. Try your hand and play live blackjack today.
